What You Need to Know about the PVC Fence

Meta description: Is your budget too tight for your fencing needs? Consider a PVC fence as your cost-effective solution.
If you’re doing research on the various types of materials being used for fences, you may be confused about how some people in the industry seem to refer to a vinyl fence and a PVC fence as if they’re one and the same. But others say they’re totally different.
Explaining the Difference
Generally, PVC and vinyl are the same material. PVC stands for polyvinyl chloride, which is a kind of special plastic that can be moulded into many types of commercial products. And from the word polyvinyl” we get the word vinyl” for short.
But in some cases, the term vinyl fence” is often used for this specially constructed fence made from PVC. On the other hand, the term PVC fence” is used when the fence is made from just equal lengths of PVC pipes.
With these PVC fences, you then use PVC pipes to replace the wooden pickets and stakes. You also have PVC sleeves that go over the wooden posts. In some cases, screws are used to fasten the PVC stakes to the cross bars, while in other cases an adhesive is used to attach the PVC stakes. For some people, a PVC fence is a DIY project, which requires some planning and the cutting of PVC pipes to exact lengths.
Benefits of PVC Fences
So why choose a PVC fence instead of vinyl? The most commonly cited reason is that this is the most affordable way to frame your yard. After all, these PVC pipes weren’t really originally meant to be used for fences. It seems like a makeshift method instead. So the cost is very low.
In addition, the PVC material is extremely resistant to the elements. That should help the fence last for many years. Also, the material is resistant to fungi and termites as well.
And there’s also the fact that PVC pipes may be available in a variety of colours although in general they usually come in an attractive white color. For a meagre budget, these benefits are already more than sufficient.
Challenges
There are, however, some drawbacks to using PVC fences that you will either have to overcome or live with. The main problem is that the PVC pipes used for this type of fence weren’t specifically designed for use in a fence. And that means that they’re not as sturdy as they ought to be. They’re good for marking the boundary of your yard, but they may not withstand strong winds.
Also, from a distance the pipes may look attractive enough. But on closer inspection the fence looks like what it really is: a series of interconnected pipes.
Conclusion

So the obvious conclusion is that the PVC fence as defined here is your best option if you have a limited budget for your fence. While other kinds of fence materials look much better, if you’re just using this fence to mark your property’s boundaries, then they offer a cost-effective means to achieve your goal.
